Welcome to the ESOL classroom
-
Dear Parent or Guardian,
I want to take this opportunity to introduce myself and express my excitement about working with your child this year. I love teaching ESOL (English as a Second Language) or ENL(English as a New Language) because I am an ESOL student learner and understand how it is to be in a new country and assimilate to a new culture. I aim to provide support during ELA and Social Studies classes during the day. Over the course of the year, we will work hard to improve our reading, writing, listening, and speaking skills. ESOL students will be taking the NYSESLAT exam in the spring in addition to the NYS Regents exams.
I work with your children for one (1) period every day. During that time, we are working on improving reading comprehension, building academic vocabulary, and enhancing writing with close attention to grammar rules during our mini-lessons. In PIG class, we are working on a research paper, where students learn how to review literature and paraphrase the articles in their own words. We are covering a lot of new and meaningful vocabulary. My main goal is to make my students come out of their shells and express their thoughts using a wide range of vocabulary in their speech and writing.
I am available daily to assist students with work from other classes. Please do not hesitate to contact me via email at jamilya.arzanesh@rcsdk12.org
