Welcome to English with Mr. Kester Here at Early College!
Mr. Kester
Hello students and families! Allow me to introduce myself. My name is Nate Kester, and I'm one of the ELA teachers here at Rochester Early College International High School. I've been proudly teaching in the Rochester City School District for 18 years, after attending SUNY Geneseo for my Bachelor's in English and Nazareth for my Master's in teaching. This is my eleventh year here, having spent the previous seven years up the street at Wilson Magnet High School. I'm an avid reader, big into music, an amateur writer, and run 4-5 times a week.
I've taught every level of English here, but this semester, I'm teaching Creative Writing and English IV. This is only the second semester I've taught Creative Writing, and I couldn't be more excited about getting back to it. I've been writing for over twenty years, and took a Creative Minor in college. I'm really looking forward to helping my scholars realize the joys that can come with creative writing.
It's been two years since I've taught English IV, and it's so nice to be doing it again. It's my favorite of the "regular" English classes, with authors like Malcolm X and Ta-Nehisi Coates proving both challenging and thought-provoking. Both class' descriptions are below.
