September Letter to Parents (English)

Dear Parents/Guardians,

We want to warmly welcome you and your kindergarten student at the beginning of your journey towards graduation as the Class of 2031!  As we look to support every school, classroom, and student, the Foundations Language Enrichment Program will be provided in every kindergarten classroom in the Rochester City School District this year!  This unique experience will allow your child’s classroom teacher(s) to collaborate with a speech-language pathologist, and present engaging lessons to support the academic standards at the kindergarten level. The Foundations Language Enrichment Program will target basic concept development, vocabulary expansion, and phonological awareness skills (such as rhyming) that will provide your student with a solid foundation on which to build as they progress through their academic careers.

At school, the classroom teacher(s) and speech-language pathologist will develop your child’s ability to:

  • Listen to a story
  • Answer questions regarding the story presented
  • Participate in group discussions
  • Expand their vocabulary
  • Follow directions in order to complete tasks related to the target concepts
  • Improve pre-reading skills

At home, we ask that you complete the monthly Home Lesson that will be sent home with each student. The Home Lesson reviews the concepts taught in the Foundations Language Enrichment Program each month. The Home Lesson also provides you with an activity to complete with your student in order to carry over their learning from school to home.

Thank you for your support, and we look forward to an exceptional year!
