• WELCOME TO ENGLISH I & II!

English I - a very exciting class!  Our main theme for the year is "Coming of Age"!  As students begin their teen years, they face many issues.  In addition to many novels, short stories and poems about issues teens face, we will read classics like "The Cask of Amontillado" by Edgar Allan Poe and discover that many issues people face transcend time and place.  They are universal.  We will also read Romeo and Juliet by William Shakespeare and To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee before the year is done!

English II - another great class!  Our main theme for the year is "Culture".  Students will investigate the role culture plays in their lives and decision making.  In addition to many novels, short stories and poems students will read in class and independently, the class will read one Shakespeare play and "The Raven" by Edgar Allan Poe.

As they read and write, students will discover different literature genres (types) and how authors use literary devices and techniques to create their art. They can then apply their knowledge of what authors do to their own writing!
