About Our Programs

  • The RCSD Youth and Justice Program (Y&J) consists of four separate program sites, in which students are assigned/admitted due to either struggles with mental health or involvement in the juvenile justice system. Serving approximately 1,200 students each year, the program partners with various entities to ensure that students receive appropriate instructional supports during their stay.

Our dedicated staff work with students’ homeschool in order to determine the best educational plan for each student. This could include but is not limited to:

    • Assisting students with completing assignments/work received from the homeschool
    • Following students’ current schedule and providing appropriate grade/course work
    • Modifying students’ schedule in order to provide Y&J course offerings
    • Providing a GED pathway for students who have either dropped out or plan to drop out of high school

In addition to RCSD students, the program also serves students from various NYS counties in grades 3 through 12, as well as those who have dropped out of school. Our staff understand that a number of our students have not experienced a great deal of academic success, which makes their job that much more critical. We look to:

    • Restore student’s belief in themselves and others by making genuine, meaningful connections.
    • Rebuild student’s confidence by meeting them wherever they are while promoting academic and cultural excellence.
    • Re-engage student’s minds by offering new, non-traditional, and innovative ways to learn.
    • Re-ignite student’s interest by providing opportunities for them to see themselves as an integral part of the world.

While a student’s time with us may vary from a few days to several months, we have the same goal for them all, and that is to put them in a better place academically so that their transition from Y&J is as seamless as possible.
