Speech language services include assessment, diagnosis, and treatment of communication disorders which adversely affect a child's educational performance. An evaluation of speech skills may include articulation, voice, fluency, and oral motor skills. Language assessment may involve receptive and/or expressive language, including phonology, morphology, syntax, semantics, and pragmatics. Depending on the nature and severity of the disorder, remediation strategies may consist of direct individual or group therapy, services integrated in the regular classroom or indirect services through monitoring or consultation with the classroom and/or special education teacher. The speech and language therapists at school 50 are certified teachers of speech and language disabilities, as well as, licensed Speech-Language Pathologists within the state of New York.
In addition to providing the services listed above, our speech therapists serve as members of School 50’s Child Study Team, ESS team and provide support to non-disabled students within the areas of phonemic awareness, vocabulary development and language enrichment when time allows.
