    175/75-hour NY State CertificationRequirements: ASAR, RTA and RAP

     

    Administrators(ASAR)

    ·        If you hold a Professional Certificate, you are requiredto complete 175 hours of continuing professional development (PD) every 5 yearsto maintain your certificate.  Your first 5-year reportable PD cyclebegins the July 1st after the effective date of your ProfessionalCertificate.  (Re: http://www.highered.nysed.gov/tcert/certificate/maintaincert-prof.html)

    ·        If you hold an Initial Certificate, your PD hours do notneed to be reported to the New York State Education Department (NYSED) untilyou receive your Professional Certificate; you do not need to read anyfurther.

    ·        If you hold a Permanent Certificate, the PD requirementdoes not apply to you; you do not need to read any further.

     

    For the 2013-14 school year, all of thePD you complete qualifies for credit toward the 175-hour State CertificationRequirement, which includes the hours you complete for the TIF program (ifapplicable).  To qualify, all approved PD must be listed on your AVATARtranscript by June 13, 2014.  At the end of June 2014, the districtwill upload all of the earned 2013-14 credits from your AVATARtranscript to the NYSED TEACH System. [Note: In the TEACH System, ‘2013’represents the hours reported for 2013-14.]

     

    Teachers(RTA)

    For the 2013-14 school year, all of thePD you complete qualifies for credit toward the 175-hour State CertificationRequirement, which includes the hours you complete for the PDI program and theTIF program (if applicable).  To qualify, all approved PD must be listedon your AVATAR transcript by June 13, 2014.  In addition, anyteacher who holds a Professional Certificate will receive an additional35 hours of job-embedded PD credit toward the State Certification Requirementagain this school year.  No action is required on your part. The district will add these hours to your transcript by June 23, 2014. You will receive an automated email from AVATAR once this credit has beenissued to you.  At the end of June2014, the district will upload all of the earned 2013-14 credits fromyour AVATAR transcript to the NYSED TEACH System.     Teaching Assistants (RAP)

    ·        If you hold a Teaching Assistant III Certificate, you arerequired to complete 75 hours of continuing professional development (PD) every5 years to maintain your certificate. Your first 5-year reportable PD cyclebegins the July 1st after the effective date of your Teaching Assistant IIICertificate.

    ·        If you hold a Teaching Assistant I or TeachingAssistant II Certificate, your PD hours do not need to be reported to theNew York State Education Department (NYSED) until you receive your TeachingAssistant III Certificate; you do not need to read any further.
