• Dr. Jennifer Gkourlias was born and raised in Rochester, New York.  She started her career in RCSD at the age of 16 years old when she created an after school program for children at School #6.  After attending SUNY Geneseo and student teaching at Jefferson Middle School and Benjamin Franklin High School, she taught secondary social studies for eleven years in the West Irondequoit and Greece Central School Districts.  She returned to Rochester to answer her calling to be an urban educator.  In 2008, she accepted the position of Executive Director for Social Studies in RCSD, after having served as a building assistant principal and curriculum director for Languages Other Than English, English for Speakers of Other Languages, and Social Studies at Greece Central.  In 2011, she served as founding principal, Young Women’s College Prep Charter School of Rochester, Rochester’s first and only single gender public school for women.  Her passions are school reform, curriculum development, and restorative practices.  She is “over the moon” about joining the Duffy Ducks and School #12 learning community to serve as our next principal and continue the story of School #12.
