Placement by Proficiency
When students arrive at RIA they are given assessments (created by RIA teachers) in reading, writing, math, social studies, and science in order to assess their language proficiency and content knowledge (in English). They are also given a native language reading/writing assessment to determine native language literacy. Students are then placed in the appropriate classes for instruction that is accessible to them.*Students in grades 7-8 and 9-12 are placed in one of four leveled beginner/entering ESOL/ENL cohorts (SIFE, Low, Medium, or High) and the group travels to all content classes together.
