Ms. Tran got married!
My new name is now Mrs. Flesch :)
My name is Annie Tran Flesch and I am a math teacher at the Rochester International Academy.  I love math and am happy to be here to teach students math and English.
I completed my undergraduate work from The College at Brockport with certifications in Math Education and Special Education.  I completed my graduate degree at Nazareth College in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages.  This is my sixth year teaching in the city school district, and my fifth year at RIA.  I love it!
My students all speak different languages and are English Language Learners. I myself was an English learner in school. I speak Vietnamese and English, and I enjoy learning new languages, too! When I am not in school working, I like to spend time with my family, my mother, father, and my younger sister, Jennie. I also like to spend time with my husband, Doug and his family.  My favorite hobbies are reading books, taking pictures, listening to music, watching movies, and cooking. I love to eat and try new foods! I like to bake desserts, especially cupcakes! My favorite vacation was to Maui, Hawaii where I went skydiving and jumped out of an airplane! I hope to someday travel to Vietnam to visit my grandfather. I would also like to travel the world and visit as many places as I can.
In my math class, I always encourage students to try. Mistakes are normal and questions are a great part in learning new things! Math class at RIA is special because we use a lot of similar strategies from other classes to learn math content and to learn English at the same time. I will always find a way to help my students understand and feel confident in their learning before moving on. We learn new vocabulary words using fun strategies and techniques, practice problem solving with real-life examples, and always take advantage of many opportunities to work with friends to practice English.
