    Course Description:  ESOL Stand Alone Classes (grade 9-10, 11-12) will engage students in all 4 modalities of language (reading, writing, speaking, and listening). Students will develop content vocabulary, academic language, reading and writing strategies, and study skills that will support and aid them in current and future classes. Additionally, students will develop higher order thinking and research skills by engaging in a variety of learning activities and research projects.

     

    Objectives:

    •  To support the acquisition of language and content skills

    •  To improve students’ English skills (reading, writing, speaking, listening)

          To have students use correct and appropriate English both in academic and social contexts

          To expand students’ vocabulary and apply that vocabulary for use in academic and social situations

         To help students transfer their language skills to grade-level classes for improved academic achievement

    • To prepare students for the Regents Exams

    • To facilitate the process of college and career readiness

    • To teach students how to monitor and assess their language learning and academic progress
