•   1000 BOOKS BEFORE KINDERGARTEN!

We are setting this goal for every student to read:

*READ. SUCCEED.  Every Child 30 Minutes Every Day*

SOUNDS LIKE A LOT OF READING, don't you think?  BUT IT IS VERY MANAGEABLE!

ACCORDING TO OUR CALCULATIONS, WE CAN DO THIS BY READING 30 minutes a day!  Read one book or 10, as long as it's at least 30 minutes!

     Why should we do it?

    ·         Research shows that engaging in active, interesting reading increases school success.

    ·         Reading books will develop letter, sound and word recognition necessary for reading.

    ·         Early successful language activities, such as sharing stories, contribute to the prevention of reading difficulties in school.

    ·         Vocabulary, in its complex existence, is of paramount importance for reading readiness and some of this vocabulary can be developed by sharing books.

We can do this with your help!  Please stop in during the course of the school day and read to our class.  We have plenty of books for you to choose from or bring your favorite.

After reading with students, please ask one of them to show the bubble sheets for our class.  Ask them to color in one bubble for each book you’ve read or for 5 minutes of reading.  It is that simple.

WE WILL KEEP A SET OF BUBBLE SHEETS AT SCHOOL TO RECORD OUR READING AS A CLASS-- WE WILL ALSO SEND HOME A SET OF BUBBLE SHEETS FOR YOU TO USE AT HOME.  PLEASE BRING COMPLETED BUBBLE SHEETS TO SCHOOL AND WE WILL REWARD ALL THAT READING WITH A NIFTY BOOK MARK FOR EACH SHEET COMPLETED!
