Inner-city youth are faced with many obstacles as it pertains to educational and social development. However, here at School # 9, we believe that students if given the opportunity can and will succeed. Bringing issues that our Black and Latino boys face every day to the forefront and providing specific strategies dealing with these issues, is imperative to meet their individual needs.
Boys in our community are left with very few role models. Therefore, we should empower them to succeed academically and socially. Embedding accountability, collaboration, and a clear understanding of the consequences behind every action are what we, as educators, should strive to develop in our Black and Latino boys.
