Below are some of the great ways members of the School #19 family can Get Up and Move
Step TeamSchool No. 19 will form a step team which will consist of 15-20 participants, males & females, 3rd-8th graders. Stepping or step-dancing is a form of percussion dance in which the participant’s entire body is used as an instrument to produce complex rhythms and sounds through a mixture of footsteps, spoke word, and hand claps.
Exercise Classes
Every Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 7:30 p.m. parents/guardians, students, teachers and staff will participate in our Health & Wellness program. The program will include, Zumba, line dancing, strength training, abdominal exercises, tips on healthy eating and the importance of being physically active. Hand weights, mats and dinner will be provided.
Walking Wednesdays
Join us every Wednesday morning for our biking and walking club. We meet on Wednesdays, 7:30-8:30am in the Gym.
School #19 promotes walking and bicycling for several reasons.
- Physical activity
- Teaching safe pedestrian and bicycling skills to children
- Awareness of how walkable & bikeable a community is and where improvements can be made
- Reducing traffic congestion, pollution and speed near schools
- Sharing time with community leaders, parents and children
Mark your calendar and plan to join us for “National Walk To School Day” on Wednesday October 7th. We welcome all parents, students and staff to walk and or bike with us every Wednesday morning. If you are interested in participating or volunteering to assist with the program please contact Mrs. Brown at (585)328-7454 ext. 2091
Recess
Well-organized recess program is in place to engage our students in meaningful play, share the importance of being active and making healthy choices and prepare them to learn once back in the classroom. Every day our students will have an additional twenty five minutes to explore their imaginations, to connect with other kids and to stretch and grow physically, emotionally and socially.
