BIKE TO SCHOOL DAY 2025

-
Students and parents from Francis Parker School No. 23 took the classroom into the community on May 7, 2025, to celebrate National Bike to School Day!
Pedaling from two different starting points—the Rochester Museum and Science Center and Cobbs Hill Park—the ride concluded at School No. 23 on Barrington Street with snacks and smiles. The event supports the District’s efforts to provide schools with expanded learning opportunities inside and outside the classroom. Members of the Rochester Police Department also provided an escort to help students arrive safely and handed out stickers to students as they entered school!
“Being active before school helps children wake up and be ready for the school day," said Adrian Martin, a parent of two students at Francis Parker School No. 23. "Studies have shown that test scores go up when children are active, and they learn more—they also get the confidence of being able to navigate the city themselves and not relying on their parents driving them around."
The first-ever National Bike to School Day was held on May 9, 2012, in coordination with the League of American Bicyclists’ National Bike Month. Nearly 1,000 local events in 49 states and the District of Columbia joined together to encourage children to bike or walk to school safely. The event builds on the success of Walk to School Day, celebrated worldwide each October.
