Electrical Program

  • The OACES Electrical Program will provide students the skills necessary to enter the electrical industry. Topics covered include residential and commercial wiring, related math, blueprint reading, wiring schematic’s, raceway installation, trouble-shooting electrical circuits and construction safety. Curriculum consists of 20% lecture and 80% is hands-on performance based. Students will learn electrical theory through hands-on practical performance projects and lectures/lessons. Upon completion, the student will be prepared for direct entry into the work place or post-secondary education.

    Training Duration: 3-6 months.

    Schedule: Rotating 4 day a week schedule, Monday–Friday.

    Class open to: All students.

    Prerequisites: Must maintain OACES minimum attendance requirements, motivation to learn, ability to work with others and conform to rules, directions, and safety procedures.

    Career opportunities
    • Electricians make a solid salary when compared with other professions and generally do not have to have a college degree. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual salary of electricians was $49,840 in May 2012.

    • Employment of electricians is projected to grow 20% from 2012 to 2022, faster than the average for all occupations, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics. As the electrical industry is continuously evolving, homes and businesses will require more highly skilled workers to install the necessary components to this ever-changing industry.

    • Some career opportunities include: Residential Electrical, Commercial Electrical, Power-Line Installer, Voice and Data Installer, Building/Electrical Inspector, Maintenance Worker, Security and Fire Alarm Installer, Renewable Energy, and Product/Inventory Control.
