Building Maintenance Program

The OACES Building Maintenance Program provides students with an introductory experience in the world of building maintenance. Topics covered include safety, maintenance math, hand tools, environmental services, grounds training and fork lift training. Upon completion of this training, students will be prepared for entry level building maintenance employment. This employment sector has many jobs available.
Training Duration: 3-6 months.
Schedule: Rotating 4 day a week schedule, Monday–Friday.
Class open to: All students.
Prerequisites: Exemplary attendance, ability to work well with others in a group setting.
Career Opportunities
• According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the average annual salary of general maintenance workers was $35,210 in May 2012.• Employment of general maintenance workers is expected to grow 9% from 2012 to 2022, about as fast as the average for all occupations. Demand will stem from new building and real estate construction, according to the Bureau of Labor Statistics.
• This career requires good mechanical aptitude, analytical skills and the ability to work with one’s hands. Skills in basic mathematics are important. Oral communication skills are vital when working directly with customers.
