  • To register for an RCSD summer program:

    • Registration for grades K through 5 is complete.  Refer to the community programs section of our website for opportunities in city and community programs.
    • For grades 6 –12, registration is closed.

Roc Explorers (K-5)

  • Program Description (6-hour school day)

    • Roc Explorers offers a dynamic summer program designed to ignite curiosity and foster holistic student development. 
    • With a focus on math and English language arts, students engage in a minimum of 90 minutes of daily math instruction and 120 minutes of daily English language arts for four weeks. 
    • Integrating STEM and social studies seamlessly into the curriculum under the overarching theme of "Who I Am." This culturally responsive approach allows students to connect with their identity and heritage in meaningful ways. 
    • Daily enrichment activities keep students engaged and prioritize hands-on learning, encouraging curiosity and exploration.

Community-based Organizations (K-5)

  • Program Description and Highlights
    Students will meet daily at John Walton Spencer School No. 16, which will act as a hub for partner organizations to provide programming for students. Community partners will transport students daily from School No. 8 to their program sites for varied summer learning experiences.

Roc Vocademics (6-7)

  • Program Description and Highlights

    • Roc Vocademics offers a unique integration of literacy, mathematics, and Career and Technical Education (CTE) to provide students with a comprehensive learning experience. 
    • Teachers and CTE instructors collaborate closely to design a curriculum that connects CTE skills with mathematical and literacy concepts, ensuring students develop a strong foundation in both academic and career-oriented skills.

Summer Language Academy (K-8)

  • Program Description
    The Summer Language Academy is a program for students currently in grades K-8 that utilizes American Reading Company Science curriculum materials and resources to ensure content-rich literacy instruction and a strong focus on academic language. Students will receive explicit instruction on reading comprehension with grade level scaffolded text, with explicit focus on science for academic purposes, and explicit teaching of language and content with high focus on cooperative grouping with home language support. In addition, the summer Language Academy will also provide science labs and hands-on activities to enhance and strengthen the learning experience of the participants.

Roc City Players (4-12)

  • Program Description and Highlights
    Roc City Players is a theatre program open to all Rochester City School District students in grades 4-12. Auditions are done for casting purposes only. Any student who wishes to participate will be a part of the production.
