• Dear Parents,

Welcome back from the holiday break!  I hope it was restful and fun and that 2014 will bring many blessings to everyone's family.  I have updated our website to inform you of our current curriculum and activities.  For additional useful information and support at home, please continue to visit engageny.org and search under the Parent tab.
Currently we have begun a new Listening and Learning Unit focusing on the War of 1812 and what the United States was like at this time.  Your student will be learning about the founding fathers, the constitution, War Hawks, the impressment of US sailors onto British ships, and how the war affected merchants in America.
In Math, we are learning more and more about ways to add and subtract within 100, and place value and counting patterns to 1,000.  Please let me know if you are having difficulty completing Math homework and I would be happy to help you either in an at school conference or a phone conference.  However, it is crucial that all Math homework be completed as it is reinforcing skills taught that day in class.
We have had our winter SOAR celebration and have now started counting SOAR tickets at 1 again to try to earn another 20 tickets for the next celebration.
We are using many internet programs to support Literacy and Math in the classroom.  We are using First In Math, Lexia, Compass, and RAZ Kids daily.  If you need log-in information again for home access, let me know and I will print out the parent information letter for you.

Please be aware that your child needs to have the following items each day:  a bookbag and their black folder.  This folder will come home on the 1st day of school and it will be black.  This will serve as your child's home/school folder.  Please keep it in a safe location.
Please also be aware that our school is now on a 4 day rotation schedule, meaning we have A day, B day, Cday, and D day.  Our class has Gym on A and B day, Music on Cday, and Art on D day.  I will send a calendar page home at the beginning of each month listing which day is what, so look for it in your child's black. folder.

********PARENT/TEACHER conferences can happen at any time.  If you would like to have a conference regarding your child's progress, please call to set up a time and date that works for you.
PLEASE BE SURE YOU HAVE RETURNED YOUR CHILD'S EMERGENCY FORM AND THAT THEY BRING THEIR BLACK FOLDER AND HOMEWORK DAILY!!!

I have sent home a word list of the first 100 Frye Words.  Please try to go over these words DAILY( try doing 5--10 words a day). These are basic sight words that your child should master by the middle of 2nd grade and will make reading so much easier.

*****  NEW THIS YEAR!!  We no longer have early dismissal on Wednesdays.  We will dismiss EVERYDAY at 3:35.
