OCR Instructional Practices

Delivery of Instruction

The Virtual Academy of Rochester (VAR) is careful to utilize instructional supports to better serve the varying student population. In addition to the meaningful contact content teachers, VAR also retains two SPED teachers in order to service any additional needs.

Instructional Supports

VAR's instructional supports included within OCR courses include, but are not limited to the following:

Audio options to students are able to have course content read to them

Pre-teaching of vocabulary to increase comprehension of new material

Use of cloze activities that provide repetition with support gradually removed

Use of graphic organizers that students manipulate to complete

lart test banks to ensure that students retaking assessments receive new questions

Study guides for students to complete while working through each lesson
