• What is ENL?

English as a New Language. ENL instruction is for students who have a language other than English spoken in the home. ENL instruction focuses on teaching students the social and academic language necessary for success in school and the community.  Instruction is co-taught with a classroom teacher as well as delivered in small, pull- out groups.

What do we do in ENL?

The primary focus in ENL is Academic Language Development through reading, writing, speaking and listening. The reason for this is that the English language is complex for many reasons, but academic language is particularly difficult for students because of the sophisticated use of vocabulary, sentence structures, and grammar. Proficiency in academic language is necessary for students to meet the demands of school. I support students' learning of academic language by providing meaningful and engaging activities that are aligned with the goals and Common Core Learning Standards at their grade level.
