Chronic absence remains a major challenge in the Rochester City School District, which has direct impact on students’ ability to learn. In an effort to improve student attendance, District employees and community volunteers will be visiting the homes of chronically absent students.
The District is giving away over 33,000 books—a book for every student—to take home over the winter break. On Thursday, volunteers will also deliver books to the homes they visit.
Volunteers will meet at Central Office to review rules and guidelines pertaining to home visits. Teams of two will then disperse for approximately two hours. Leading the blitz is Senior Director of Youth Development and Family services, Jerome Underwood.
