In support of the Rochester City School District’s attendance initiative, WDKX sponsored an attendance contest around this year’s Step Jam. The contest was conducted among the District’s Attendance Improvement 13 target schools from October 27 to November 25. Tying into the District’s attendance campaign, the goal was to determine the school with the highest K-3 average daily attendance for those 20 days.
The winner of the contest is Early Childhood School of Rochester No. 57, with an average daily attendance of 94 percent. Students will be treated to an in-school visit from the hip hop group We Are Toonz on December 12 where they will talk about the importance of good attendance. The group will also showcase the Nae Nae dance for the students, made popular by their song, “Drop That #NaeNae,” inspired by Martin Lawrence’s character Sheneneh Jenkins from the popular 1990’s sitcom Martin.
WDKX also donated tickets to Step Jam on December 13, which were awarded to the school with the second best attendance – Enrico Fermi School No. 17 – who had an average daily attendance of 93.1 percent.
