Rochester City School District Opens 2022 – 2023 School Year
(September 7, 2002) The Rochester City School District opened its doors to approximately 23,000 students this morning for the start of the 2022 – 2023 school year.
Interim Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carmine Peluso started his day at Roberto Clemente School No. 8 where he was excited to begin his first year as interim superintendent. “Everyone is excited to welcome kids back this year,” said Peluso. “I am here to support our students, families, and staff to ensure everyone has a successful school year.”
School No. 8 Principal Stephanie Thompson greeted students starting a new school year on St. Paul Street. “We are thrilled,” said Thompson. “Our staff and administrative team have been fantastic. They helped recruit throughout the summer, so we are all set and ready to go.”
Dr. Chris Miller is the Chief of Human Capital for the Rochester City School District. Since mid-July, the Office of Human Capital has filled more than 600 vacancies in schools and operations. “We had a very busy summer working in partnership with our principals and others to fill all of our positions,” said Miller. “On this first day of school, we are staffed in all our classrooms with paraprofessionals, teaching assistants, and classroom teachers.”
LaJuan White is the Chief of Schools who oversees Roberto Clemente School No. 8 and others in the District. She says the District is focused on grade-level curriculum. “We want to ensure we engage students with a high-level learning curriculum,” said White. “School is a welcoming environment and we are excited and enthusiastic to welcome students back together.”
The vision at James Monroe Lower and Upper Schools is the “Jewel of the City.” Dr. Peluso visited the Alexander Street schools to greet students arriving for the first day. To celebrate the “Jewel of the City” where students shine bright and build relationships, the school will host a pep rally on Friday, September 9. Saturday, September 10 is homecoming with festivities beginning at 10:00, and Monroe’s football team will play Bishop Kearney at 1:00.
