Students Graduate from Project SEARCH Program
The Rochester City School District is proud to congratulate the seven students who are graduates of the Project SEARCH program. The students were part of a graduation ceremony Wednesday, June 19, 2019 at City Hall.
Project SEARCH, a school to work transition program, benefits students with developmental disabilities. This program involves classroom instruction and meaningful internship experiences, with the goal of employment in the community.
This involves a partnership between the Rochester City School District, the City of Rochester, Job Path, Adult Career and Continuing Education Services-Vocational Rehabilitation (Acces-VR), the Office of People with Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD), and the University of Rochester Medical Center.
Some of the internships include experiences within the City of Rochester’s animal shelter, building services, the water bureau, and city libraries. Students receive classroom instruction inside Rochester’s City Hall.
Previous graduates of the program have gone on to work at companies and organizations like Wegmans, the City of Rochester, the YMCA, and Rochester General Hospital.
Of the seven graduates in this year’s class, one is already working at I-Square in Irondequoit. The District will continue to work with the other students over the summer to help them find employment.
