(July 14, 2021) Rochester City School District is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Carlos Cotto as Principal of Enrico Fermi School No. 17. He officially begins his duties as Principal on August 2, 2021.
Dr. Cotto takes on this new role after serving as the Executive Director of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics since 2008, where he worked collaboratively with students, families, and staff across the District. During this time, he established significant community partnerships, including engaging families across all grade levels. He also served as a summer school principal and was a Coordinator of Health, Physical Education, and Athletics at East High School. He began his career in the RCSD 23 years ago as an elementary physical education teacher at Andrew J. Townson School No. 39 and Helen Barrett Montgomery School No. 50, and he later served students in the middle grades at Wilson Foundation Academy. Dr. Cotto understands the needs of School No. 17 and will play a crucial role in sustaining and building upon the improvement efforts already in place there. His strong community partnerships and connections align well with the community school model. Dr. Cotto earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education from Springfield College and both a master’s degree in educational leadership and a doctorate in executive leadership from St. John Fisher College.
