RCSD Student Accepted into CIEE Program
(May 6, 2021) RCSD student Aaniyah Simmons has been accepted into the Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) Global Navigator High School Study Abroad Program, where she will study diplomacy in Lisbon, Portugal this summer. The World of Inquiry School No. 58 junior serves as the Board of Education’s Student Representative and President of its Student Leadership Congress.
In this program, Aaniyah will learn about the inner workings on international organizations and diplomacy, hone her public speaking and debate skills, visit the Parliament and European Union headquarters, and visit an organization that works with refugees and the homeless housing program.
Aaniyah’s original goal was to apply for CIEE’s Language and Cultural Immersion Program in Taiwan, and she was later accepted into the program in China. However, both those programs were cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. After receiving a generous merit scholarship to cover most of the cost, and much consideration about the limited program offerings, Aaniyah decided to study World Government in Portugal.
