Boys and Men of Color Education Summit

The Rochester City School District was proud to partner with a number of different agencies to support a Boys and Men of Color Education Summit on Saturday, October 27, 2018. 

 

The event was held at the RIT Inn and Conference Center from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. This one-day summit included keynote presentations, workshops, and panel discussions on the critical educational supports needed by boys and men of color to achieve the highest levels of personal and professional success.

 

Dr. Jason Willis, Director of African and American Studies for the Rochester City School District stated, “We have a community issue going on right now.  The state of our young people in the City of Rochester is something we should be concerned about.  We wanted to capture that energy and provide a forum to gain knowledge and provide opportunities for mentorships.”

 

Notable summit speakers included:

  • Mayor Lovely A. Warren
  • Jason Willis, Director of African and American Studies for the Rochester City School District
  • Jerome Underwood, CEO, Action for a Better Community
  • Jacob Scott Jr, Assistant Principal, Edison Career and Technology High School
  • Jackie Campbell, Alliance Director for the Children’s Agenda

 

The summit was designed to empower and enlighten the community by gaining awareness and sharing insight.
