Damaris Saltares Appointed as Director of Bilingual Education
The Rochester City School District is pleased to announce that the Board of Education last week approved the appointment of Damaris Saltares as Director of Bilingual Education, effective October 22, 2018.
Upon graduation from Hilton High School, Ms. Saltares immediately joined the workforce for a short time, including employment at Ibero-American Action League as a Medicaid Service Coordinator. During this time, she earned an Associate’s Degree in Childhood Education from Monroe Community College, a Bachelor’s Degree from Nazareth College, a Master’s Degree from the University of Phoenix, and a Bilingual Extension from SUNY Brockport. Ms. Saltares also graduated from the University of Rochester with a Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership.
Ms. Saltares is honored to call the Rochester City School District her home for more than five years, serving as a Bilingual Teacher at Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. School No. 9 and most recently as the Community School Site Coordinator at James Monroe High School. Prior to joining the RCSD, she served students in North Carolina for two years in the Durham Central School District as a classroom teacher.
“Damaris brings a variety of community and education experience to this role,” said Deputy Superintendent Cecilia Golden. “I am confident that she has the background, passion, and leadership skills to lead our Bilingual Education Department.”
Please join me in congratulating Damaris Saltares on her appointment as she looks forward to continuing to support Rochester students and families.
