Learning for Students and Teachers Alike
Friday, July 14—On Wednesday, Superintendent Barbara Deane-Williams, along with key leaders from the Rochester City School District, visited the summer learning program at Henry Hudson School No. 28. School No. 28 is hosting the Roc Summer Arts Academy. In this program, also being run at James P.B. Duffy School No. 12, teachers and staff have supports from RCSD high school students who are employed throughout the summer. In addition, AmeriCorps members are at each summer learning site, focused on the learning and emotional supports for students. Another important aspect of the Roc Summer Arts Academy is professional development for teachers. Teacher leaders and members of the sustainability team are working to provide learning opportunities for staff to focus on new strategies and protocols that they can share with colleagues in the next school year, such as building out curriculum, timelines and even preparing shareable materials that will be accessible to all teachers in the District. This ensures that the learning done over the summer links with the learning occurring during the school year, which will give students the best educational experience possible.
