Sophomore Sensation: Padilla’s Kamara Lane Sweeps State and Federation 200m Titles

Kamara Lane, a sophomore at Padilla High School, crowned a state champion in track and field

The Rochester City School District congratulates Kamara Lane, who was crowned the Class A New York State Champion in the 200-meter dash and went on to win the New York State Federation Championship in the same event this past weekend at Webster Schroeder.

Kamara, a sophomore at Padilla High School, finished the Class A race with a time of 24.04 seconds.  She then bested her own time in the Federation Championship race, crossing the finish line at 24.03 to claim the overall crown.

Already an All-Greater Rochester athlete and a Primetime 585 Elite Award Winner, Kamara added to her accolades today when she was announced as Primetime’s Girls Outdoor Track Large School Award winner. The talented sprinter and jumper is currently considering attending the University of Louisiana to continue her studies and her track career.

“Winning both the Class A NYSPHSAA State Championship and the Federation Championship is an incredible honor and a testament to Kamara’s dedication throughout the season,” said Rob Thomas, Athletic Director at Padilla High School. “This achievement not only highlights her athletic talent, but also the perseverance and character that define a true champion.”

Lane wasn’t the only RCSD athlete making waves this weekend. Student-athletes from Monroe put on impressive showings at Webster Schroeder.

Monroe's Luis Falu placed in the top three across the state in all three of his individual events. Luis captured 2nd overall in the Class B 200-meter dash, alongside two 3rd-place finishes in both the 100-meter dash and the long jump. Fellow Monroe standout Kayden Goodman also battled against the state’s elite, earning a top 10 finish by placing 10th overall in the Class B triple jump.

Monroe’s four-by-100-meter relay team consisting of Luis Falu, Terrell Cunningham, Jr., James Brumfield, and Terrance Barner capped off their season by placing 12th overall in the state.

The RCSD congratulates our student-athletes on a remarkable track and field season.
