Dr. Shalonda Garfield Named Principal of Rochester Early Childhood Education Center – Southwest

(June 3, 2026) Superintendent Dr. Eric Jay Rosser is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Shalonda Garfield as Principal of the Rochester Early Childhood Education Center—Southwest, effective July 1, 2026.

Dr. Garfield is a Rochester native and proud graduate of the Rochester City School District, bringing extensive experience as an administrator, instructional leader, and former classroom teacher. Most recently, she has served as the District’s Director of Early Childhood and Numeracy, leading Districtwide efforts to strengthen literacy and numeracy outcomes for students from birth through grade three. Prior to that role, she served as Principal of School No. 39, where she fostered instructional improvement and student success. She also previously served in leadership roles at East EPO, including Middle School Principal, Assistant Principal, and Interim Principal at East Lower School.

Prior to entering school leadership, Dr. Garfield served as a classroom teacher in the District, teaching grades two through six, and later as a professional development facilitator supporting teachers and administrators in curriculum design, differentiated instruction, and data-driven instructional practices. 

Dr. Garfield earned a Bachelor of Science degree in English with Childhood Education certification and a Master of Education degree in Curriculum, Instruction, and Special Education from SUNY Brockport. She also earned both her Master of Education degree in School District Leadership and Doctor of Education degree in K-12 Educational Leadership from the University of Rochester.
