Dear Soaring Strings Students and Families,
I hope that this finds you healthy and safe! I miss seeing each and every one of you at school, as well as miss sharing music with you all. It is for sure a crazy time - please be good to each other, stay home, and wash your hands!
If you have your instrument at home, I would like to encourage you to KEEP PRACTICING! Even just a few minutes a day can keep your fingers and musical brain fresh. I will post our basic scales below as a reminder, as well as some songs that you can find in your packet.
If you would be interested in doing a lesson through Zoom, Skype, or Google Meet, please e-mail me at Shannon.Beikirch-Miller@rcsdk12.org and we will set it up! I am happy to work with your schedule!
If something happens to your instrument while we aren't together, PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO FIX IT!!! Send me an e-mail and describe if you can what happened. If it's a simple fix, we can try to do a video chat and I can walk you through fixing it.
As a reminder, DO NOT try to wash your instrument! YIKES! If you feel like your instrument was handled by someone who was infected with Covid-19, reach out to me via e-mail and I will give you directions on how to properly care for it.
Don't have your instrument because you left it at school? Just don't feel like practicing today? NO PROBLEM! Here's some suggestions for you to be musical without using your instrument!
    - Go for a walk if it's nice out. Put on a jacket, pop in your earbubs/ airpods. (Want credit? Take a picture of yourself outside, and when you e-mail it to me, tell me what you listened to, what your favorite type of music is to listen to & why)
    - Have a dance party using different kinds of music!
    - Look up a virtual orchestra: most of the world's famous musical groups are performing, but for empty theatres. Click on this link to check out free streaming options! (E-mail me & let me know what you watched/listened to, write up a review- what you liked, didn't like, etc.)  https://www.classicfm.com/music-news/live-streamed-classical-music-concerts-coronavirus/
-Check out this awesome YouTube channel to learn a LOT about string instruments! (She even taught *ME* a few things!)
If you haven't checked out 2Set Violin... oh my goodness. GO!
Do you HAVE your instrument? You can play along with Black Violin! You only need to know a G Major Scale (if you forgot it, it's written out below ;) )
As always, please contact me with any questions! Please be well, and I hope we are back together soon! <3 Ms B
Use your creativity to make different rhythms for your scales! Start with something basic like 1 bow per note, then maybe "Mississippi Hot Dog" / "Pepperoni Pizza"... then use your imagination! Maybe "Wash Your Hands" or "Go Away Corona"?!
    All string instruments -
D Major Scale (start on open D string)

G Major Scale (start on open G string)

    0    1    2    3    0    1    2    3
C Major Scale - start on open C string
(remember - you will have to pull your bow faster and with a little more pressure to get a good sound on the C string!)
    C   D   E   F   G   A   B   C
    0   1   2   3   0   1   2   3
A reminder: The tabs to the left are for you to access to find more information, including newsletters, student expectations, lesson schedules, homework assignments, etc. I have also added a new section by request called "How Can I Help?!" which is for parents who want to support their string student (but don't feel musical themselves). Even if you can't carry a tune in a bucket, you can help your student more than you know!
