Grade 4: ELA Listening & Learning: Module 3A: Considering Perspectives and Supporting Opinions

They chose their favorite and did a further research regarding their choice.
Process:
The teacher used Smart Notebook file to introduce and carry the project. It took about 4 hour long sessions for students to understand the idea of writing a dialogue and create pages of the report. Then students were introduced to the rubric and the procedure of scoring their projects using Smart Response File. Students really liked the idea of animation by creating a dialogue with a simple machine.Resources: -
Phantom of the Opera

Throughout the school year, each partnering classroom will be connected to a Phantom cast member and maintain written communication through email and social media to enhance collaborative efforts between the production and classroom in giving students a multi-faceted experience to create a complete understanding of theatre, culminating in attending a performance of Phantom. In addition to this communication, students will have multiple interdisciplinary classroom activities, which will also utilize local community resources.

Students were instructed to include character development or a change that this character might have experienced. Each fable was supposed to have a beginning, a middle part, and a conclusion. First students worked with a graphic organizer and inputted the main elements of the fable. Then students wrote the fable itself. Finally they worked with Comic Life to add pictures, graphics to their stories.

They did some research and created their own pages in Comic Life. The teacher used Smart Notebook file to introduce and carry the project. It took about 4 hour long sessions for students to learn Comic Life software and create pages of the report. Then students were introduced to the rubric and the procedure of scoring their projects using Smart Response File. Students really liked the hand on project, as well as learning about Colonial America in a fun and creative way using technology.
