K-2 ELA: Listening and Learning: Immigration
Posted by Elizaveta Steffen on 6/23/2014 9:00:00 AMTitle: Letters to GrandmaDescription: Students used Comic Life software to demonstrate their understanding of immigration.
Teacher:Lisa Malerich, #35 School
Process:It was a culminating activity to the unit on immigrants. Students wrote letters to their grandmas. These letters had to be written from the perspective of an immigrant. All students were assigned a home country. Their letters had to reflect the experiences of an immigrant from that country based on the area where they settled. Students worked independently throughout the writing process and held peer conferences. Then they had a teacher conference prior to the writing final drafts. Then we modeled steps to using the Comic Life. Students worked on the project in groups of four sharing one laptop. it took us 3 sessions of 40 minutes each.
