I grew up in a family of educators who fostered my passion for teaching and gave me the freedom to express myself by creating Art. My parents were very supportive of my artistic endeavors, except when I drew on my carpet or wallpaper (which happened more than a few times as a young child). My Dad was the Superintendent of schools, and my Mom taught 3rd grade at Martin B. Anderson School #1 in Rochester. When I got to high school, I had several wonderful Art teachers who inspired me to become an Art teacher myself.
After graduating from Fairport High School, I studied Art and Art History at SUNY Geneseo, where I received my Bachelor of Arts. From the time I was in 8th grade, I know that I wanted to be an Art teacher, but I was also extremely interested in what was happening in the Contemporary Art world. Upon graduation from Geneseo, I applied and was accepted in the Art Administration program at the Fashion Institute of Technology in Manhattan. I lived and worked in New York City and became completely immersed in the Art world. I was fortunate enough to get an internship at an Art Gallery that bought and sold museum quality works, and learned the in’s and out’s of being and Art dealer right around the corner from the Metropolitan Museum of Art. I completed my Master of Arts in Art administration, and took a job as the head of sales at a gallery in the Hamptons where I worked for several years.
I studied at Nazareth College from 2007-2010, where I received my Master of Science in Art Education. I did my student teaching in Pittsford and Brighton, and was hired to teach the summer creative adventures program in Brighton immediately upon graduation from Nazareth. I taught ceramics for 8 years at Brighton’s creative adventure program, and was a long term sub in the district from 2010-2014. In 2014 I began teaching Art in school in the city school district. I currently work mornings at George Mather Forbes School #4, but have also taught at school #28 and school #5.
In my spare time I love to ride my Horse, Alfie. My husband and I love to hike with our two German Shepherds, Tiga and Tonka. I spend as much time as I can in our gigantic garden, where I love to grow all sorts of fruits, vegetables and flowers. We love to travel whenever we can, and the Pacific Northwest has become one of our favorite places to visit recently.
