School-Based Health and Mental Health Clinics

School-Based Health Clinics (SBHC)
 
School-based health centers offer a safe and comfortable environment for students to receive high-quality medical and mental health care, right at school.  Services in this program are provided at no direct cost to students or families.  Each center is staffed by medical and mental health professionals who provide a variety of health services, including case management, immunizations, mental health evaluations and ongoing treatment, nutrition education, physical examinations, and primary health care.  The centers are in partnership with Rochester Regional Health, University of Rochester School of Nursing and Jordan Health Care.  Providers communicate with the student’s primary care provider and parents to provide comprehensive care. These centers help parents avoid missing work if their child needs a quick medical appointment that would otherwise require taking them out of school.  Parents must complete an enrollment form to receive these services.

  • Physical examinations 
  • Treatment of injuries
  • Assessment, diagnosis and treatment of illnesses
  • Prescription management
  • Mental health services
  • Immunizations
  • Laboratory tests
  • Health education
  • Counseling

School-Based Mental Health Clinics

School-based mental health clinics provide direct and timely access to mental health treatment and support for students and their families right in school.  Mental health therapy can be a tool used in school to       reduce anger, depression, anxiety, and other emotional or behavioral concerns.  These partnerships aim to improve communication, relationships, coping strategies, grades, motivation and attendance.  School-based Mental Health services are provided by licensed community-based mental health professionals to support students and families.  Students must be enrolled in a school that has a mental health clinic and be referred by a school social worker or counselor to be eligible.  Services are billed to students' insurance.  For more information or to request a referral, please contact the school counselor, social worker or school nurse.
