• Community Service Hours Approval Form

Community Service is a volunteer, non-paying job performed by one person or a group of people for the benefit of the community. All Grade 11 and 12 students must complete Community Service hours as a graduation requirement, and to fulfill the mandatory requirement for the successful completion of Participation in Government (PIG) and Economics. Prior to freshman year, many colleges require students to have served Community Service hours, as well.

Beginning in Grade 11, all juniors are expected to complete at least 10-hours of Community Service to be performed outside of the school day. Students in Grade 12 are expected to have completed a minimum of 20-hours total by the end of senior year.

Community Service opportunities are listed on the Information Board located outside of the Commencement Office. Participation in Community Service activities which are not listed on the Information Board, require prior approval by the Grade 11-12 Administrator; they have the authority to refuse any or all un-approved service hours.

Community Service hours must be voluntary and unpaid.

Students should strongly consider completing more than 20-hours of Community Service.

Additional hours served strengthens college applications, and increases the potential for scholarships.

Remember… you must return a completed Community Service form to the Commencement Office for each service opportunity.

Community Service hours will not be approved if the activity took place during a school day, and the student was absent.

Community Service hours may only be approved by family member with prior permission.

Please Note: All Community Service hours must be completed by Friday, May 22, 2020. Hours turned in after that date will not be processed in time to purchase prom tickets.

If a junior or a senior does not fulfill their Community Service hours, they may not be allowed to participate in SOTA’s Prom or graduation ceremony.
