Online Registration Process

  • For Students Entering Grades 7 and 9 for the 2021-22 School Year

    If you are applying for school for the 2021-22 school year, the School Choice application deadline is Friday, April 2, 2021. Students who do not participate in the School Choice Lottery will be placed in a school closest to your home where space is available after the selection process is complete.

    All student registrations for grades 7 and 9 are completed online – it’s convenient, fast, and ensures your information is accurate.

    You will need a student ID number to register. If you do not have a student ID number, you can obtain one by calling the Office of Student Equity and Placement at 585-262-8241 or by email at Visit for a complete list of acceptable documentation.

    Once you have a student ID number, complete the steps below to register your child for school:

First, Sign Up

  • To register a child for grade 7 or 9, visit and create an account.

    Online Registration Parent Portal Login

    You must create an account to log in and register your child in the new system. 
    You will need to provide an email address. You can also sign up through Facebook, Google, Twitter, and LinkedIn.

    Step 1: Click Start New Application and select Begin Choice Application.
    You will be required to enter your child’s student ID number.

    Step 2: Enter the student’s information.

    Step 3: Complete the information about which schools your would like to select.
    You must choose 5 school options.

    Step 4: Review application. Click Send my Application and Sign Out.

    You will receive a confirmation email once your registration is complete. If you choose Save and Exit on the application, it will not be submitted to the lottery. You must click Send My Application to complete a lottery submission.

  • For additional support, please visit the Office of Student Equity and Placement at 131 West Broad Street, Rochester, NY 14614. Placement Specialists are available to assist you Monday through Friday, 8:00 am – 4:30 pm.

    Registration packets, applications, school compacts, and other documentation is available for pick-up at 131 W. Broad Street but the Student Equity and Placement office is currently closed for in-person support due to COVID-19. Placement specialists are available to assist with any registration by phone or email during normal office hours.
