Mr. Thomas D. Gillett III
Mr. Gillett been teaching for @ 12 years at East High, and for about 22 years overall in the Rochester CSD. Although he is certified in Social Studies (grades 7-12), he has also been involved in alternative settings for much of his career. The first several years at East, he helped establish the In-School Suspension (ISS) program with Mr. Reid; he has also taught 7th and 8th grade Social Studies, Global Studies I & II, and this year finds him returning to the Alternative to Suspension (ATS) room serving the Lower School. Scholars and staff alike know Mr. G as a positive, good-natured teacher who does whatever he can to support positive growth in the culture of teaching & learning we are striving to establish in our school.
In addition to teaching at East, Mr. Gillett is also a proud graduate of our school. Graduating in 1986, Gillett was a 4-year letterman on the Varsity Soccer team, and was voted Class Clown & Most Athletic by his senior classmates that year. After HS graduation he attended Alfred University, earning a Bachelor's of Science (BS) in History/Secondary Education in the spring of 1991. Later, he would earn his Masters of Science in Education (MSED) at SUNY Brockport with a concentration in Secondary Social Studies. He has also participated in Life Space Crisis Intervention training, Red Cross first aid training, and a wide variety of professional development opportunities during his tenure in the school district.
Mr. Gillett is married to his best friend, Amy Gillett, who is a school counselor at Spencerport HS. She did her practicum with Ms. Gilbert & Ms. Burnell right here at East HS! They have been married for 16 years, and a couple for 22 years; their children are Lilly (age 14) and Tommy IV (age 12), and their kitty Finn is 3 years old. Our family enjoys soccer, basketball, disc golf, hiking/camping, playing board games and any/all activities that involve family & friends.
