    Re-opening FAQ'S

Frequently Asked Questions about Re-Opening for Parents & Caregivers

When will Back-to-School Orientation take place?

Each House will be hosting Orientation in the School #33 Parking Lot. The dates and times are as follows:

    Gold House – Thursday, September 10th, 8:00-11:00am

    Blue House – Thursday, September 10th, 12:00-3:00pm

    Gray House – Friday, September 11th, 8:00-11:00am

At the Orientations, you will have the opportunity to access resources from our partners, meet your child’s teacher, your House administrator, and other staff, and pick up a bin for your child that will include learning kits, supplies, your devices, a remote learning schedule, and more! If you are unable to attend, teachers and school administrators will work to ensure you receive these items.

When is the first day of school?  Monday, September 14th  Students will begin remote learning. Remote Learning means that students will be learning from home with regular contact with and guidance from school teachers and staff.

How long can I expect my child to be learning from home?  Remote Learning will take place for the first marking period, or first ten weeks, of the school year (September 14th – November 16th). Rochester City School District officials will be assessing the implementation of the Remote Learning Plan every two weeks. Any changes to the plan, including what will happen after the first ten weeks, will be shared with staff and families when such changes (if any) are made.

When will I learn who my child’s teacher is for this school year? School #33 will be sending home postcards to families that will include your child’s teacher’s name, and their new House (either the “Blue,” “Gold,” or “Gray” House). These postcards will come before House Orientations on September 10th and 11th. If you do not receive a postcard in the mail, please feel free to call the Main Office for information (585-482-9290).

Is my child eligible to receive a laptop and/or internet device?  All students in the Rochester City School District are scheduled to receive a Chromebook (laptop). All households will receive at least one internet device. These can be picked up during School #33’s Orientation days. In the event that you are unable to make it to the Orientation days, school administrators will work to ensure you receive devices. The only exception for students receiving devices, at the moment, are our Pre-Kindergarten students. Devices are likely to be deployed later in the Fall. In the meantime, teachers will provide hands-on kits for students.

Will my child be expected to follow a schedule during Remote Learning?  Elementary students will follow a schedule for each instructional day that spans from 9am-3:30pm every week day. On Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays, students will engage in a combination of direct online classroom learning (“synchronous”) and independent work (“asynchronous”). On Wednesdays, students will be working completely independently (“asynchronous”) while teachers and staff participate in planning time, continuous professional learning, etc.

*Specific schedules that outline the instructional day block-by-block will be provided to families by their child’s teacher during Orientation, before school starts.

What online platforms will my child be using? Students in PreK through 2nd grade will be using Seesaw as their instructional platform; students in 3rd through 12th grade will be using Google Classroom. These applications will come pre-loaded into students’ Chromebooks, connected to their teacher’s online classroom, before they receive them.

How will Remote Learning affect the services my child receives through their IEP (Individualized Education Plan)? All students are entitled to the services listed on their IEP. Relevant service providers will be working together with teachers and parents to determine the best method/schedule for students to receive services.
