Do you believe that children should receive encouragement, yet also be helped to recognize clear boundaries? We do! At School No. 50 we honor and celebrate success. We also promote a common belief that we should all respect and protect ourselves, others and the things around us. We want to build character while we also build brain power. We value working together and seek avenues to promote both student and staff development as a diverse population with common goals.
- Uses the ATLAS school-reform model to support student achievement through shared decision making and focused study of student learning.
- Offers special programs such as the Major Achievement Program (MAP), grades 4-6, Learning English through Academic Program (LEAP), grades K-3, and English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL), all grades.
- Has an active PTA which hosts such events as Movie Nights, Family Fun Night, Grandparents’ Luncheon, “Muffins with Mom,” “Donuts with Dad,” and Fall and Spring Fundraisers.
- Provides extracurricular activities such as Chorus, Band, D.R.U.M., Recorders, Safety Patrol, Storytelling and Student Council.
- Maintains a Computer Lab and mobile laptop computer stations which help integrate technology into the curriculum. We offer numerous computer programs like Accelerated Reader, LEXIA, KidBiz, KidSpiration, Earobics, Compass Learning, and TumbleBooks.
- Enjoys a partnership with Nazareth College. Future teachers assist in our classrooms.
- Follows the Olweus Anti-Bullying/Anti-Violence approach. Our “Respect and Protect” student behavior model conducts weekly classroom meetings and celebrates monthly character traits.
- Offers the Health-e-Access Program through the University of Rochester Medical Center, which allows students to be seen by a pediatrician while at school through a “telemedicine” video/computer connection.
- Supports children and families with healthy responses to stress through Project Resilience, P.A.T.H.S., and the Center for Dispute Settlement.
