At Abelard Reynolds School No. 42, we welcome parents to join us in celebrating the world of learning with our students. We use researched-based “best practices” in all of our classrooms, pre-kindergarten through grade six. Our partnerships with community organizations and colleges help us to offer our children a diverse educational experience. Our vision is to have all of our students viewing high school and college as attainable goals while becoming lifelong learners and productive citizens.
- Is a V.I.T.A.L. school (Visual Integration of Technology, Arts and Language), using art and technology to strengthen language arts skills. Artists and teachers plan activities that correlate with English language arts and other subjects. Program involves partnerships with the George Eastman House and the arts organization Project UNIQUE.
- Has a state-of-the-art computer technology lab and a portable laptop “learning lab” for use in grades K-6.
- Provides early intervention for children in kindergarten and first grade through the Great Beginnings program. Offers extended-day enrichment in English language arts and math for grades 3-6 and in social studies for grade 5.
- Has a full range of exploratory classes (art, music, physical education, library, technology) for all students.
- Offers instrumental music instruction to students in grades 4-6. Has two musical performing groups: Primary Chorus and Intermediate Chorus. Participates in “The Commission Project” which links professional musicians and composers with schools.
- Recognizes student academic excellence through the Principal’s List (much like the Dean’s List at college), honoring students who have achieved all E’s in the Effort areas of the report card.
- Reinforces character development and appropriate student behavior through the schoolwide “Manners Matter” program.
- Has an active PTA that meets monthly to discuss instructional issues and ways of supporting students.
- Offers a free after-school recreation program Monday through Friday through the City of Rochester. Offers free hot meals during the recreation program through a partnership with Foodlink.
- Serves as a real-life training site for student teachers from SUNY Geneseo, SUNY Brockport, Nazareth College, St. John Fisher College, and Roberts Weslyan College.
