Lincoln School No. 22 supports students as they work toward reaching state standards and school learning goals. We are part of the America’s Choice school reform design which embraces curriculum change, standards-based education, and active engagement of parents, business leaders, and others in the community to participate in decision-making and shared accountability. Our goal is to prepare all students to become productive, responsible and contributing citizens in a global society.
- Reading instruction is enhanced through the 100 Book Challenge Independent Reading Program which provides reading materials at the appropriate level for each student and helps them progress to more advanced levels. Principal’s Book of the Month and Literacy Night enable students and parents to share in the joy of reading.
- In addition to our hands-on approach to math (Math Investigations), our Math Busters Program encourages students to become fluent in basic facts by participating in weekly competitions. New computer lab offers math programs such as Destinations to reinforce skills.
- Citizenship, positive behavior, and personal growth are addressed throughout the school. Students exhibiting positive traits as well as accomplishments in reading and math are recognized during monthly Town Meetings.
- We embrace and support Spanish-speaking students through a Developmental Bilingual Program to develop literacy in English and Spanish at grades K-6. Both Spanish and English languages can be seen throughout the building and appreciation for both languages is modeled in various activities.
- Our Drive For 5 and Model Student program rewards students for making positive choices, being prepared to learn and encouraging peace. Students receive “Gotcha” tickets from school staff who catch them “doing the right thing,” which can then be exchanged for toys, games, school supplies, clothes, and other prizes at the School No. 22 Gotcha Store.
- Extended-day activities include After-School Language Arts and Math programs, Baden Street Program and Saturday Academy which are extensions of the school day and help students achieve academic, social and physical goals.
- Students can participate in programs like Robotics, KBA Basketball, Safety Patrol, REACH (Responsibility, Empowerment, Achievement, Citizenship, and Honor), Scott Spino Literacy Foundation, Resiliency Program and Fast Track Rochester. Celebrations are held throughout the school year, including a Multicultural Fair and a Spring Carnival organized by our community partners.
- We have over 160 volunteers through a partnership of the Unitarian Church, Buddies, Bridges & Brains and the Scott Spino Literacy Foundation. This allows children to participate in one-to-one reading activities that encourage them to develop a love of reading.
- Newly renovated computer lab and mobile laptop computer lab are used in classrooms to assist students in learning and using technology. The library is equipped with new computers and a Smartboard which allows students to interact with various computer programs and activities.
- Health-e Access Program in cooperation with Strong Hospital allows students to be seen by a pediatrician while at school via “telemedicine” computer/video link.
