Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra (RPO)
The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra continues a tradition of musical
excellence that began in 1922 by George Eastman. There are over 100,000
people who listen to the R.P.O . All the people in the R.P.O play instruments
such as the flute, trumpet, clarinet, trombone, and the bass drum.
Gary the Happy Pirate and the R.P.O worked together once. Gary the Happy
Pirate sang and showed children of all ages how to have fun.
The R.P.O also performs with different orchestras and plays with many
different people. I went to the R.P.O and I heard about 9 different songs.
They all sounded beautiful, especially the song about love and it sounded
excellent!

The R.P.O.
My class and many other classes went to see a concert starring the R.P.O.
First, I took a bus to the theater, then went in an sat down.
Next, we waited for it to start and after a few short minutes the concert
began.
After that, this story teller came on stage with a paint brush an apron
and some paint. Now we painted a musical picture of rainstorm. To make the
sounds of the rainstorm, we clapped our hands, snapped our fingers and patted
our laps.
Finally, the R.P.O. played some music that was so relaxing I fell asleep.
I liked the R.P.O.'s music and painting a musical picture with the story
teller. I would really like to go again because it was a musical adventure!

The RPO
On Tuesday January 28, 1997 my class and I went to the Rochester Philharmonic
Orchestra.
First we went on a school bus to get to the Eastman Theater where the
orchestra plays. When we got there, the theater was open so we went in.
When we went in, it was so crazy, that our class didn't even know where
we were going to sit, but we found out where we were going to sit.
The next thing we did was wait a while and while we were waiting the
warm up leader, who is also a violin player in the orchestra, warmed up
the orchestra players. They were doing this to get the orchestra ready for
the show.
After that the conductor came out and introduced himself and another
man. The other man was dressed like a painter. He was dressed like a painter
because he was painting in the air the different sounds made by the different
instruments. The man who was pretending to paint was Jay Stetzer. The different
instruments they had there were violins, violas, a thunder sheet, a wind
instrument, flute, clarinets, double bass drums, piano, timpanis, trumpets,
trombone, bassoon, piccolo, oboes, tubas, French horns, alto saxophone,
etc.
The songs that the orchestra played were "Ballet Chicks In Their
Shells" written by Rimskey Costicot. Another piece that he wrote was
called "Bumble Bee". They were both beautiful and peaceful.
The next piece that they played was called "Cloud Burst" and
another one.I can't remember what it was called but it was cool. When they
were playing "Cloud Burst", he let us make wind with our hands,
thunder by clapping our hands, and rain by stomping our feet.
I think that the RPO was a very interesting and nice field trip. I want
to do it again sometime with my class, family, or friends. When you go to
see the RPO for the first time, you will be amazed as much as I was.
