On Christmas day 1907, Cabell Calloway was born. He was born in the southeast Rochester.The reason Cab Calloway was into music was because he heard his mother sing and his aunt play the organ. When he was a little boy his grandmother played the song called "Minnie the Moocher", which is why he became the king of "Hi-De-Hi-De-Ho."During his life he was a band leader, an actor, a composer and a dancer.Cab Calloway was also in many movies to, such as, "Stormy Weather" in 1943 and the "Blues Brothers" in 1980. He also played in the movie "Porgy and Bess."In 1993, he received an award called the National Medal of Arts, presented to him by President Bill Clinton. He also received an award from the University of Rochester.Cab Calloway has a marker on Sycamore Street in Rochester's Neighborhood. Cab Calloway was born in Rochester on December 25,1908. He was a singer, band leader,and composer. Cab Calloway was famous for the words HI-DE-HI-DEHI-DE-HO and HO-DE-HO-DE-HO-DE-HEE. Cab Calloway made his own orchestra called Cab Calloway and his Alabamians. Within six months the group had became so popular that it was booked at the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem.
