Armenta Adams Hummings

Armenta Hummings started her musical career when she was 4 years old. When
Armenta was older, she got a scholarship to the Julliard School. There she
studied under the eminent pianist Sascha Gorodnitski, and graduated with
Bachelor and Master of Science Degrees.
After graduating from Julliard, she was awarded the Martha Baird Rockefeller
Grant to do concerts in Europe.
She appeared in Africa, South America, India and Pakistan under as an
Ambassador for the State Department. On her return from Africa, she was
honored with a reception at the State Department.
She made her New York debut at Town Hall. She also performed at Alice
Tully Hall, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Carnegie Hall and Avery Fisher
Hall.
Ms. Hummings founded Gateways Music Festivals to increase black musicians
visibility and viability. The festival gave a black musicians nationwide
a chance to meet, exchange ideas and support each other. She came to Rochester
in 1994 as an Eastman School's Distinguished Community Mentor.
In 1995, she was artistic director Of Gateways Music Festival in Rochester,
New York.
