Moving Minds is a program to assist preschool teachers in incorporating developmentally appropriate movement into the classroom setting. Each classroom receives a weekly ½ - day visit for a semester. Andrea or Carol meets with the teacher to plan for the following week, tailoring the program to meet classroom needs. They suggest & demonstrate ways to superimpose movement into the planned activities. Each teacher receives a weekly worksheet of the ideas/activities utilized for the program.

Highlights:

• was developed and is implemented by an occupational and physical therapist at the Rochester City School District
• combines developmentally appropriate movement to increase learning and academic readiness
• creates movement opportunities in the classroom through collaboration with classroom teachers
• suggests movement activities that correspond with classroom lesson plans
• assists teachers in implementing movement by visiting the classroom for three hours per week for one semester
• provides continued support on a consult basis at the conclusion of the program
