1.What
are Early Childhood Programs?
Early
Childhood Programs provide prekindergarten experiences that meet
the developmental needs of all four year old children in the city and their families including children with disabilities.
2.What
do the programs include?
A
daily classroom schedule includes language, math, science and arts.
A meal or snack is provided daily. All early childhood teachers
are certified and use curriculum that is consistent with the New
York State standards. Family partnerships are established for each
child. 3.
Does the program cost money or is it based on my income?
Many of the programs are free giving every three and four year old
the opportunity for prekindergarten experiences. Some programs may
have eligibility requirements.
4.Where are Early Childhood Programs located?
Early Childhood Programs are located in 60 sites throughout the
city. Check the map on the Providers'
page to determine the sites close to you or call the Early Childhood
office at (585)-262-8279.

How are sites selected?
We select sites in all areas of the city where there are three and
four year old children. All of the sites meet the city's building
occupancy codes, fire codes, and additional criteria of the Rochester
City School District to further assure the safety and quality of
the learning environment of each site.
6.
Is transportation provided?
Generally parents are expected to transport their children.
7. What are the hours of Early Childhood Programs?
Early Childhood Programs offer half day morning and afternoon programs
five days a week.
8. Are there evening programs?
Some of the Early Childhood sites offer other programs including
infant, toddler care and afterschool programs for school age children
and a number of services to families. Check with the individual
provider to determine hours of service.
