Student Records and Requests for Nondisclosure

Parents of District students have the right to request that the District not release “directory information” about their children to outside organizations. Directory information is defined as a student’s name, address, telephone number, date and place of birth, major field of study, participation in officially recognized activities and sports, height and weight of members of athletic teams, dates of attendance, awards received, and identity of most recent previous school attended. Occasionally, the District may be asked for such information pursuant to the Freedom of Information Law by parent or student associations, social service or community groups, providers of educational, training, or employment opportunities, including recruiters for colleges, and employers including the armed services.

Parents and eligible students have the right to “opt out” by telling the District that any or all of such information should not be released without prior consent by writing to Barbara Jarzyniecki, Records Access Officer, Rochester City School District, 131 W. Broad St., Rochester, NY 14614; or by completing the District's non-disclosure form, also available in schools. “Opting out” will mean the information is not released to anyone without prior consent from the student’s parent or legal guardian.
